I have the great fortune to live in a part of the world that is rich with photographic opportunities. Growing up in the mountains of Northern Utah, I came to appreciate the gifts of the natural world long before I first picked up a camera.
My journey in photography began more than three decades ago, when I enrolled in my first darkroom class. Seeing an image come to life in a darkroom tray was magic! After I had exhausted my class options at the Salt Lake Art Center Photography School, I was invited to join the staff and share what I had learned with students. Teaching, for me, was a particularly satisfying part of my own education; the enthusiasm of new students was infectious, and contributed to my passion for the art form.
All these years later, I’m still learning and growing as a photographer. Along the way, I’ve learned from and been inspired by many talented people, a few of whom I will mention here. Please consider exploring the work of John Sexton, Charles Cramer, Guy Tal, Michael Gordon, Bruce Barnbaum, and Rodger Newbold.
Making photographs has given me a way to share the experiences I have in the landscape that transcends language. Whether you are viewing these images because I’ve invited you to, or because you’ve stumbled onto the site some other way, I sincerely hope you’ll find a bit of the wonder I felt when these images were captured.
